Dear Cam,     Thank you for being a part of the Pilgrims Hospice Society family.  All of us have been affected in one way or another by COVID-19 – at the very least social and physical distancing has been difficult. Whether you or your loved ones have experienced a reduction or loss in income, significant declines in investment portfolios, or as an employer have been faced with making difficult decisions, please know the team at Pilgrims Hospice Society is thinking of you.    Despite the uncertainty in the world today, there are stories that inspire and demonstrate the good that is in this world. Because of your support of Pilgrims Hospice Society, together we continue to write a good news story for our community.    I am so proud to share with you updates on the development of the Roozen Family Hospice Centre and the ways in which Pilgrims Hospice Society continues to serve during the COVID-19 pandemic.    Thanks to you, the Roozen Family Hospice Centre is a good news story.   Construction continues and at this time I am pleased to report that we remain on budget and on time for a year-end opening. Please take a moment to view our construction photo gallery. The aerial shots are amazing!    Earlier this year, Kelly Marlow RN joined the team as Director, Residential Care. In her role, Kelly will be instrumental in developing the care model, sourcing suppliers and service providers and setting the stage for the delivery of residential hospice care at the Roozen Family Hospice Centre.

“I have two people in my life that took advantage of your grief counselling and it helped immensely at a time they felt absolutely hopeless. We learn so much about living and yet our other certainty, dying, is left for us to wonder and guess…Thank you Pilgrims Hospice for being here.”    Barbara M.
Gillian, Recreation Therapist, mailing the second week of client care packages.
Because of you, the team at Pilgrims Hospice Society continues to deliver programming and support to both existing and new clients.    On March 17, our Hospice Day Program was suspended indefinitely. By March 19, most of our team began working remotely and without missing a beat, our Grief Counsellors implemented telephone and video counselling services – conducting 77 counselling sessions to March 26. I am extremely proud of our staff and volunteers who continue to connect with clients through phone, video and postal delivery. The care and compassion demonstrated is remarkable.     Our Hospice Day Program team is checking in weekly with our clients. Each client receives a telephone call from LPN, Sheila Anne, and Recreation Therapist, Gillian, mails out client care packages containing personal letters, photos, activity sheets, trivia and exercise sheets.     Every day our team seeks innovative ways to continue to support those we serve and I look forward to sharing successes over the coming weeks.    Thanks to you Pilgrims Hospice Society offers programs and services at no cost.    To continue to provide this much needed support, we need your help.
