ROB CHRISTIE'S TEXT – PART ONE

HII’M ROB CHRISTIE, AND I’M ON CAM’S CREW

ROB CHRISTIE HAS BEEN A GATEKEEPER FOR ME, AND HAS OPENED THE GATE, MANY TIMES FOR ME.

ALL OF THOSE TIMES ROB HAS UNHATCHED THE GATE MANY THINGS … SHALL WE SAY … HILARIOUS EVENTS.

ROB AND I MET IN 1979 IN A BAR IN ONOWAY.  IT WAS AFTER A SOFTBALL GAME WITH THE 630 CHED SULTAN’S OF SWING, AND WE NEEDED TO GO TALK ABOUT IT.

ROB AND I BECAME GOOD FRIENDS.

ONE OF MY BIGGEST DREAMS WAS TO TRY LIVE COMEDY.

IN 1981 ROB WAS HOSTING A COMEDY CONTEST AT JESTERS, A COMEDY CLUB IN THE OLD GRAND HOTEL.

WE HAD LUNCH AT THE YOEMAN’S ON 107 ST….AND I ASKED, PLEADED AND BEG ROB TO LET ME ON THE SHOW.

A GUY IN A WHEELCHAIR ON STAGE? WHO CAN’T SPEAK PROPERLY?

WHAT COULD GO WRONG?

ROB WASN’T FOND OF THE IDEA, UNTIL …. I REACHED OVER FOR THE BILL TO BUY LUNCH.

WE HAD A DEAL.

BUT MY MOTHER … THAT WAS THE BIG CHALLENGE…SHE DID NOT WANT ME TO LAUGH AT MY DISABILITY.

I TOLD HER, OVER AND OVER AGAIN, I WASN’T LAUGHING AT MY DISABILITY.

I WAS LAUGHING … WITH …. MY DISABILITY..

MY FRIEND ROB REALLY HELPED ME WITH THAT….AND, THIS EVENING, I’LL TELL YOU HOW MY FRIEND ROB PUT ME ON THE TARMAC OF THE EDMONTON INTERNATONAL AIRPORT, TEN FEET IN FRONT OF A MOVING JET…MAKE SURE YOU COME BACK, RIGHT HERE ON CAM TAIT DOT COM.

I’M ROB CHRISTIE, AND I AM ON CAM’S CREW.
